If there’s a skill children need to do well in school, it’s time management. Learning to be organized with our time and chores is extremely important, even moving forward from school. Still, it is a difficult ability to acquire!

In this post, The Tutoring Center in West Bloomfield will give you a few tips so you can get your child to make better use of his/her time.

How to Manage Time (For Children)

Set a Schedule

The easiest way to start managing time is by setting a schedule. Being able to write down activities, and have a visual reference to what you need to do can be really helpful. Make sure to include time for homework, chores, fun time, extracurriculars, bedtime, and more.

Remove Distractions

In order to get your child to make the most out of his/her study time, there shouldn’t be any distractions around! This means no phones or TV, to help avoid procrastination.

Get Some Tools

As mentioned above, having a schedule is a very helpful way to stay organized. But, there are some other handy tools (like a calendar or agenda) that can also keep your child on track.

Arrange the Environment

In a previous post, we talked about the importance of building the perfect environment in order to get focused and be productive. Be sure to provide the right comfort and lighting for it.

Talk About Responsibility

Sometimes, it’s just better to discuss a topic with the children. If you explain the concepts of responsibility, restraint, and the usefulness of being organized, they will understand them.

Reward

If your child isn’t that motivated to stay organized, then you could provide some sort of incentive. You can reward him/her for meeting goals and finishing his/her activities on time.
